Your Outdoor Photos: January 2022

The Inland Northwest is full of flora, fauna, waters, scenery and active people out to savor it all. Please visit this gallery regularly to share photos of your wild experiences, learning moments, hot discoveries, favorite trips. Help us build a visual tour of what's so great about the outdoors in this region through all four seasons. This photo gallery will be an inspiration to some people. To others it will be a reminder of why we love to live here – and get outside as much as possible.

An early Valentine from Mother Nature. This caught my eye at the Iller Creek Conservation Area on February 8, 2022.

This is a Great Gray owl the largest owl in North America they are 27 inches tall with a wingspan of 52 inches yet they weight only about 2.4 pounds my wife Sandy and I found this one on the west planes a rare find for this area. Found Feb 4 2022.

One of my favorite winter birds they can come in huge flocks one of their favorite foods is mountain Ash berries, they are called waxwings because of the red and yellow tips on their wings that appear like a wax dripping. Taken February 2 2022 Cheney W.A.

It’s been a foggy month—January 2022. We were pleasantly surprised to see the sun above the fog on the Arrowleaf Trail at Antoine Peak Conservation Area. Part of the Iller Creek Conservation Area peaks out in the background above the fog layer.

What I like about this photo (besides the hint of color in the morning sky) is that I’m standing in the Mica Peak Conservation Area looking out at the Saltese Uplands Conservation Area. Behind Saltese is the Antoine Peak Conservation Area with Mt. Spokane State Park in the background. How lucky we are to live in such a place! January 17, 2022

This Short-eared owl has it's back to me yet looking right at me they can do this because they have 14 vertebrae in their neck we have 7 they cannot move their eyes around as we can so beaning able to turn their head makes up for it.They are called Short ears because they have very short feather tuffs on top of their head seldom seen. Taken January 22 2022 very foggy.

January 31 2021 19 degrees On my daily walk along the Spokane River near T J Meenach Bridge, I have tried to capture a photo of this Great Blue Heron for two months. He has always taken flight before before I could get a shot. Today he was trying to stay warm and stood in the water waiting.
